YouTube is launching a new feature; Merch Store which will allow users to sell branded merchandise directly from their YouTube channel. Merchandise includes digital downloads, concert tickets, event videos etc. YouTube is partnering with TopSin, Songkick, iTunes and Amazon to support the Merch Store feature.
YouTube is certainly going to have some small percentage of sales through Merch Store, which is not harming the whole project anyway. Though Merch Store is going to roll out globally in coming weeks, there’s already great anticipation both from the audience and from actual users.
Merch Store Benefits
No doubt Merch Store will be a great opportunity for artists to capitalize their talent in all available ways, but when I say artists, Lady Gaga, Rihanna or Eminem are not the ones who come to my mind. Celebrities of that high echelon will not benefit from Merch Store as much as start up artists seeking for fame and fortune! Merch Store will make YouTube an ultimate tool to broadcast yourself, sell your music, concert tickets and promos all in one place!
Dangers
YouTube is actually taking arms against ticket selling platforms and Merch Store is bringing really tough competition to the services available online. However, Merch Store is probably not going to be free as we have mentioned above, so leading ticket selling platforms such as Eventish will still firmly reside on their places offering same quality FREE services.
