Google Maps for Android 6.0 Adds Indoor Coverage

Google has just released the sixth generation of Google Maps for Android. New generation means integrating new features and additions: Google hasn’t failed to do this for us and this time we welcome Google Maps indoor coverage and a new Google toolbar.

So, what do we mean saying indoor coverage?

It’s quite easy!

Have you ever come to get lost in a big airport? Have you ever failed to find the lift in a big mall? And generally have you ever happened to ask yourself “Where am I?”

I bet you have! Google Maps indoor coverage is coming to help you. If in the past Google Map helped you to find your location only outdoors, now it does the same for indoors.

In Google’s official blog it is written:

“When you’re inside an airport, shopping mall or retail store, a common way to figure out where you are is to look for a freestanding map directory or ask an employee for help. Starting today, with the release of Google Maps 6 for Android, that directory is brought to the palm of your hands, helping you determine where you are, what floor you’re on, and where to go indoors.”

Another exciting thing about this feature of Google Maps 6 is that it will allow retailers to upload their own floor plans to the service in future.

With this exciting tool you can kiss goodbye to your problem of lack of orientationJ.

I think you are supposing that Google can’t immediately cover all the public buildings across the world. And for now Google Maps indoor coverage includes only some of the largest retailers, airports and transit stations in the U.S. and Japan. Don’t get upset if don’t find your country’s crowded big buildings: Google Maps 6 will do its best to reach you.

Are you excited?  Start using Google Maps 6 for Android; download the update from Android Market. This update works only for Android OS 2.1+ devices.
